Student Mental Health & Well-Being Surveys

Spring 2018 Well-Being Surveys

Health & Well-Being and the Division of Student Life are conducting surveys to better understand the state of mental health and general well-being on campus. Your thoughts and perceptions, provided to us through these surveys, are vital to helping improve mental health and well-being on our campus. Below are some common questions that you may have.

What surveys are going to students?

Three surveys are being send out to students:

  • The Healthy Minds Study
  • The Wake Forest University Well-Being Assessment
  • The Ohio State University College Prescription Drug Use Study

The Healthy Minds Study (HFS) examines mental health, service utilization and help-seeking behaviors, and related issues among undergraduate and graduate students. This study will help us better understand the state of mental health at Georgia Tech and how students are seeking care so that we can provide better programming and services to meet the needs of our campus.

The Wake Forest University Well-Being Assessment is a dynamic, multidimensional measure of holistic wellbeing in undergraduate students covering topics such as purpose, belonging, relationships, and intellectual curiosity. The assessment will help to provide us a picture of student well-being at Georgia Tech and how we can best support the development of necessary skills, the availability of resources, and optimal conditions for achieving well-being.

The Ohio State University College Prescription Drug Use Study analyzes non-medical use of prescription and non-prescription drugs. This study will help guide the development and improvement of educational programming for students and guide policy and practice at Georgia Tech.

Who is receiving these surveys?

More than half of the Georgia Tech undergraduate and graduate student population will receive an email invitation to participate in one of the surveys. No student will be asked to participate in more than one survey. If you receive an invitation to participate, please use this opportunity to use your voice. This information is vital to helping improve mental health and well-being at Georgia Tech.

Why are these surveys important?

One of the recommendations of the President’s A Path Forward – Together Action Teams was to implement continuing periodic student surveys on mental health. The last time Georgia Tech administered a health and well-being related survey was in 2011. These surveys will help provide us with a new baseline of health and well-being at Georgia Tech and help the Office of Health & Well-Being and the Division of Student Life identify new program and initiative opportunities. If you receive an invitation to participate, please use this opportunity to use your voice

Who will be able to see my responses?

All of the surveys are totally anonymous. Your personal information will not be linked to your responses in any way. No one at Georgia Tech will review any raw data.

When are these surveys taking place?

The Healthy Minds Study and the Wake Forest University Well-Being Assessment begin in early March. The Ohio State University College Prescription Drug Study will begin in early April. If you receive an invitation to participate, please use this opportunity to use your voice. This information is vital to helping improve mental health and well-being at Georgia Tech.

How will I know if I have been selected to take a survey?

You will receive an email invitation with directions for how to participate if selected. You will receive additional email reminders if you have not completed the survey. If you receive an invitation to participate, please use this opportunity to use your voice. This information is vital to helping improve mental health and well-being at Georgia Tech.

Do I receive anything for participating?

YES. Participants who complete the survey will be entered into a random drawing for multiple prizes valuing up to $500. The prize options vary by survey. The details of the prizes will be in your email invitation.
